Conference: 2009

Rhode Island’s Off-Shore Marine Ecosystem and the
Potential Impacts of Alternative Energy Development

13th Annual RINHS Ecology of Rhode Island Conference was held:

Thursday, April 23, 2009, 8:00am – 4:30pm
Quonset “O” Club, North Kingstown, RI

All available powerpoints and other materials from the conference are on a Resources Page HERE.

The conference, sponsored by RINHS, Rhode Island OceanSAMP, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, engaged over 215 scientists, organizations, and citizens in an investigation of ocean development impacts on marine ecosystems and resources. Rhode Island researchers and resource managers joined speakers with experience in off-shore wind energy development from Denmark, Great Britain and elsewhere. In addition to the scientific sessions, there were organizational displays and presentation of the 2009 Distinguished Naturalist Awards.

Thanks to CRMC, OceanSAMP, URI, US Fish & Wildlife Service, and all who helped make the 2009 conference one of RINHS’s most successful events ever.

Since 1993, the Rhode Island Natural History Survey has sponsored 12 conferences on ecosystems and natural historical subjects of concern to Rhode Island and southern New England. RINHS conferences are widely regarded for convening a broad spectrum of scientists, conservationists, and agency managers to share information about animals, plants, and geology of Rhode Island and its environs. The conferences are an excellent venue for researchers and organizations to showcase what they do in a collegial environment. Additionally, they provide good career building opportunities for students from high school to graduate levels.

For more information, contact info@rinhs.org or call 401-874-5800.

The conference was held at the Quonset O Club in North Kingstown, RI, approximately 25 minutes south of Providence.
